Everytime I open Word to create a new document, after I type the first line
and hit return key -- the cursor goes to the end of the document. I have
tried "Format," "Paragraph," "Page Set-up," and "Margins." and changing
"Styles." I don't know what else to do --- pleae help if you can.

Go to File > Page Setup > Layout. Probably the Vertical Alignment box is set
to Justified. Change it to Top.
