Hello NG,

when typing into a textfield in my form, the cursor sometimes seems to
hang for a couple of seconds. Instead of dislplaying characters, IE
displays vertical lines, kind of shadows of the cursor, in the textbox.
This behavior only seems to occur while the second frame of the page is
still loading.

Is this some kind of known bug in IE, and is there any way to remedy
this behavior?

sounds like you don't have enough ram for the app. that
your running. turn something off or check page file.

Rule out parasites.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
