Cursor Dissappears (XP Home edition)

For the past couple of weeks, I have been plagued by my cursor dissappearing.

I will be working in WIndows XP (Home edition) and I tend to multi-task,
with Office 2007 applications Outlook, word, excel, powerpoint, open
simultaneously with Firefox or IExplorer.

All software is up to date (I think). I've run several spyware checkers and
they all come up blank. Basically, my cursor seems to sporadically
dissappear. The only solution is to reboot. Since this is not a Windows
errror I suspect that WIndows isn't recording it, but think how hard it is to
process without seeing your cursor.

I've checked the Cursor trails fixes on a few websites and can't find
anything. Help!

Thanks

Maybe your mouse is on the way out. Try another mouse!

Try lowering graphics hardware acceleration slide. You can lower
graphics hardware acceleration in Display Properties, Settings tab,
Advanced button, Troubleshooting tab. If this helps, you probably need
a different graphics card or drivers.

Already swapped for a new mouse. Tried computer and microsoft update for
newer drivers. Old and new mice were scrolling optical USBs.

NEVER download a driver from MS Update!

Does this occur when you are using the PC or does it only occur when in
standby or when the screensaver has started? I use a home made animated
cursor that periodically disappears when the screen saver has started. If I
right click the desktop, the cursor reappears. I have not been able to
determine what causes this.

Surprisingly good advice there from PD43...

....except that is where XP mouse drivers come from.

I sort of use the machine sporadically. My work involves a bit of phone time
and sometimes I will notice after a call that the cursor dissappeared. Other
times, its while I am using it, so I do not think it is a screen saver issue.

Actually heading off on vacation for a week+ so to anyone who may attempt an
assist, I will be back. Thanks to all for their suggestions....I really
think it is some sort of Microsoft induced error.

On the other hand, I did notice some USB port not recognized error
yesterday. I have a Gateway desktop and have to admit is has never performed
as well as I expected. At one time, my system had a hard crash and when I
brought it in for repairs, as they pulled each card and tried a restart, I
was told that the USB hub wasn't in well. And when pulled and then
reinserted, it worked. I am considering this might have something to do
with it since this is a USB mouse--but can't be sure.
