Following the latest security updates on my Windows XP Professional node, a
peculiar condition is happening frequently. While writing a mail or a
document file, the cursor disappears - the active window gets greyed as the
one in the background. One has to click on the window to make it active once
again. I wonder if others are experiencing the same phenomenon. Is there any
remedy for this as this is very irritating as it happened three four times
while writing this post.

Thanking you in advance

What "security updates" did you install? What third-party driver updates
did you install?

Robear,

Thanks for the response. Just installed the Microsoft updates from the
Microsoft site. No third party update or programme was installed.

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3).

References:

How to correct "disable Autorun registry key" enforcement in Windows:

All the PCL inbox printer drivers become unsigned after you install the
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1:

Update for Microsoft Silverlight, February 18, 2009:

You cannot play content that is protected by Microsoft Windows Media Digital
Rights Manager in Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 after you upgrade
Windows Media Player or the operating system:

Microsoft root certificate program members (January 2008):

None of the updates you listed were security updates (so you do not qualify
for no-charge support from MS) and I'd very much doubt that installing any
or all of them would have caused the "loss of focus" behavior.

Is it a Desktop or Notebook PC, Rajiv? If a Desktop, see if using another
mouse makes a difference. If a Notebook, are you using the touchpad to
navigate or a mouse?

If a wireless mouse (Desktop or Notebook), make certain the receiver is not
located near anything electrical (e.g., modem; lamp; external HDD).

Yes, you've told us most of that before. See all of my previous reply,
