Hi, I was sent a document and I wish to add text _before_ the box which
appears first on the first page. How do I get the cursor positioned
before that box? I knew this once but have forgotten it.

Thanks, Dave

I'm not sure what box you're referring to ... if the first element on the
page is a table, you can get "above" the table with Ctrl-Shift-Enter.

Suzanne, thank you! I just tried what you suggested and it worked. I
have no idea why I never stumbled on that before. I apologize for taking
up everyone's time. I have been using Word for about eight years and
every once in a while I come across this situation. Thank you, I'll
remember it this time. Dave Horne

I guess I've been lucky never to use a version in which it did not work.

Actually, Ctrl-Shift-Enter does insert a column break when applied at
the top of a document if there is no table there. The real trick is
that it doesn't insert a column break if the cursor is inside a table.
I assume that this is because you cannot have multiple columns inside
a table.
