I downloaded and installed the current version and it still says Beta 2 on
the window although it doesn't say anything about the current version still
being beta on the web page. Would someone confirm if the current version is
still beta 2 or the final version?

Hi Doc;

The current and final (non-Beta) version as downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
is
1.1.1592.0

It will have that version number in the About Windows Defender Help file
within the program once you install it. The File Properties Digital
Signature for the WindowsDefender.msi file should show Microsoft
Corporation as signer with a Timestamp of Thursday, October 05, 2006
10:35:00 PM

Dave and Engel,

I appreciate your quick reply. I tried the link each of you referenced and
I downloaded beta 2 again. I then cleard my cookies, temp files and history
and downloaded again without luck - still beta 2. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

What other software are you running at the time of the install? Have you
shut down all other antispyware, antivirus, or "protective" software?

Bill,

I've not only shut down antispyware and antivirus (from Windows Live
OneCare) but also messanger, SQL Server Service Manager, and anything else
that could be turned off. Would it help if I attached my IE7.log file for
you to review?

Thanks,
Jeff

I can't think why that log file would be relevant. I believe there may be
log files in %temp% that relate to the Defender install--I'll do a new
install when I get home and see what I can suggest.
