current date enter automatically when new data entered on a record

I am basically Access illiterate but use it at work. I don't know strings or
other technical terms.

Is there a simple way to get a date field to automatically update to the
current date when new data is entered on a record? I don't want the date to
change if someone is just viewing the record.

set the control's default to the following:

=Date()

Hi Rick,

Do I do this in Objects-Tables or do I do this in the cell?

I don't see any control in Objects-Tables. In the cell, I see "control
source" and "Control Tip Text". Is it one of these?

Hi Rick and thanks for replying.

Where do I find the control's default? The only things I found in the cell
properties was "control source" and "controltip text".

Hi Cathy,

In the design of the table for the date field:
1. Default value = Now()
2. Change the format of the same field accordingly as you might need.
