I take it this is the automatic update that is failing:
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-014
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (867282)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms05-014.mspx
When you mention the update refers to "64-bit", I'm pretty sure it's talking
about the Windows (OS) version, such as "Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit
Edition", and not your browsers cipher strength. That is why the install is
failing, because you are running Windows 2000, which is a 32-bit OS.
Somehow your auto update feature in Windows 2000 is offering you a bogus
update.
Go to the web site mentioned above, and in the "Affected components"
section, choose the download link that's relevant to your version of Windows
2000 and IE. Hopefully you have SP-4 for Win2K installed. Or, you could
just use Windows Update.
