I use the Ctrl P shortcut but I find it sometimes prints my documents
automatically and other times I get the print dialog box. I prefer to get
the print dialog box so I can choose options. Why does it opt to print
automatically one time and another time, it gives me the printer dialog box?

There may be a macro in a specific document or template that intercepts the
FilePrint command and executes the FilePrintDefault command. In a document
where this happens, go to Tools | Macro | Macros and see if there is a macro
named FilePrint. If so, change the "Macros in" setting until you find the
template or document that contains the macro (note that Word Commands
doesn't count; it's just a list of all Word commands). You can attempt to
delete the macro from this document or template, but note that it may be
protected (the Delete button will be disabled).

It could also be a customization of Ctrl+P to FilePrintDefault in a
particular document or template. When it happens press Ctrl+Alt+NumPlus (the
+ key on the numeric keypad) then press Ctrl+P and the customize dialog will
display showing the command attached to Ctrl+P - if it is FilePrintDefault,
remove it.

Good thought, Tony--and actually more likely in this instance.
