Hi
I am going to lose the use of one of my hands for a short period - is it
possible to map Ctrl+alt+del to a single key so that I can use if necessary

Alex

Do you want to start Task Manager or log off? If the
former, you can run taskmgr.exe with the Start>Run method
(or a button linked to a batch file).

To log off, you can create a button that runs an Autohotkey
(or other program) script.

Create one or several shortcuts on your desktop with these commands:

shutdown.exe -L (to log off)
shutdown.exe -S (to shut down the PC)
shutdown.exe -R (to restart the PC)

Good luck with your hand!

For more detailed work, don't forget "sticky" keys in Control Panel;
Accessibility. The ALT key for instance stays pressed after you press
it and release it, and waits for you to enter the key/s to go with it.
The "Help" section covers it off rather well.

Good luck!

Hi Alex,

It has been awhile, I hope your hand is OK now?
- - -

To whom it may concern,

In Windows XP, instead of using the 3-finger Alt+Ctrl+Del keys combination
to activate Task Manager, you can use the 2-fingers Ctrl+Shift+ESC
combination to activate Task Manager. (Assuming your left Shift and Ctrl
keys are next to each other so 1 finger or thumb can press both, while a 2nd
finger hits the ESC key.

Another way to access Task Manager, using the mouse, you can right-click a
blank place on the taskbar, (or the clock,) and click Task Manager on the
Context Menu.

To do that same operation without the mouse, pressing and releasing one key
at a time, press the Windows logo key, then press ALT key, (notice the
dotted rectangle on the Start button,) then press TAB to change to other
sections of the taskbar, until dotted rectangle appears around one of the
systray (Notification Area) icons, then (left or right) Arrow-key to switch
to the clock, then press Context Menu key (between right win-key and right
ctrl-key) to activate right-click menu without using the mouse, then press
"K" key for Task Manager, or use arrow key to select and press Enter key to
activate. The Context Menu key is also called the Shortcut Key, or System
Key, or Application Key. If you do not have a Win-key, press the Ctrl+ESC
keys combination. If you do not have a Context menu key, press the Shift+F10
keys combination. (Try it right now!

For more keyboard tips,
click Start,
click Help and Support,
Search for:
keyboard shortcuts
Left side, Choose: Windows keyboard shortcuts overview

(Triple-click here, to be of good cheer!
