Once a China-exclusive, Crytek has announced that their free-to-play FPS Warface will release in western markets come 2012. the CryEngine 3-powered shooter has been designed from the ground up to support the free-to-play business model and will be available exclusive to PCs.

According to the German developer, Warface takes place in the "near future" and "provides gamers with a constantly updated extensive PVE universe full of dramatic multiplayer co-op missions [and] a full set of class-based PVP."

Whether or not the title will support DirectX 11 remains to be seen. Crytek's previous effort, Crysis 2, garnered a lot of attention for its impressive post-launch DX11 patch which enabled Parallax Occlusion Mapping, Sprite-Based Bokeh Depth of Field, Tessellation and Displacement Mapping, and more.
“With Warface we aim to become the next-gen of free-to-play shooters that are en par with traditional AAA games in terms of quality. We have the team and technology to make it happen and are starting with a strong partner in Asia to ensure we gain experience with the free to play business model, ” said Cevat Yerli, CEO & President of Crytek. “It’s the next logical step for us to bring this new IP to a global audience and thus to our worldwide community.”
