I'm working on a managed project -- or I should say I want to remain
"managed" -- is the Crystal Reports component that comes with VS.NET 2003
under the "managed" umbrella?

If it is not managed, what are the distribution licensing requirements? And
what components do I need to distribute?

Also, does the .NET component support .rpt (reports) created in earlier
versions of the "retail" CR8.5 or CR9 ?

I'm not seeking any licenses for design options, just the simple method -- I
use CR to build create the .rpt, distribute my app with CR component (not
designer) that permits the report data to be populated and then printed. In
other words the basics.

CR.Net comes with a distributable license with your VS.Net. You have to
register your copy with Business Objects and they will give you a
registration key. This key is then used when you deploy your
applications. During deployment you add the merge modules for cr.net.

Im not sure about CR8.5 but i do believe CR9 is supported.

Thank you for the info, I ended up buying David McAmis book covering this.
So clearly any .NET app using CR is no longer "managed" -- that is
unfortunate. I would think the number of applications that do reporting
would certainly warrant support in .NET framework v1.1 -- maybe v2.0 will
have it (but I suspect not unless MS just buy Business Objects and get it
over with).
