After upgrading to Office 2007 and attempting to open Outlook, I receive an
error stating the 'CRYPT32.dll is incompatible with MS Outlook. Install
again.' The error was still there when I reinstalled.

Hoping someone can provide some advice re what I need to do next...I'm at a
loss.

Do you have some kind of add-in that encrypts? What shows in the Trust
Center?

Hi, I have this same problem - its very fustrating!
It seems to have something to do with having an e-mail address in, I can
access outlook fine, but as soon as I put in my e-mail account username
password ect it instantly brings up this error message and shuts outlook down
and will not allow me in outlook again until I have deleted out the e-mail
account details.

I looked in the Trust Center and don't see addins that ecrypt, but don't
really have the knowledge base to be 100% certain. Prior to receiving the
crypt32.dll error, I receive 2 other error messages...'The extension config
file Program/MSOffice/office12/addins/msspc.edf cannot be installed. Error
in syntax or format." The second error message is exactly the same, but the
file name is all in caps, i.e. MSSPC.edf. I looked in the folder and can see
the msspc.edf file. Now, I'm even more clueless re what to do....thanks for
your help!

Are you sure it wasn't msspc.ecf? That would be a Microsoft Schedule Plus
add-in if it were. Try this: with Outlook closed, delete the file
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat
(for Windows XP - Vista uses %UserProfile%\Local\AppData\Microsoft\Outlook
as the path, I believe). Then start Outlook again.

I had this same problem, and after 3 hours on the phone with Microsoft help,
they determined it was a corrupt user account. We set up a new user account
as an administrator. We then opened Outlook and went through the new set up.
After we set up the Outlook account everything started coming through.
After we got it up and running again we had to go in and Import my .pst file
to get all of my outlook emails and address book uploaded. I hope this helps.

Robert,
Every time I reinstall and open Outlook it tells me that previous outlook
was not closed properly and do I want to Open in Safe mode.
I uninstalled the program and reinstalled, shouldn't that message or note of
the occurence go away?
i am uninstalling now and will delete the directory if it exists.
I still get the crypt32.dll message. I did what you had to do, moved my pst
so I had to start a new one. Same issue with the crypt32.
This should be easier.
Thanks for your timely response earlier.
