Crossfire set up??

I am thinking of buying two HD4870X2 cards and want to connect them as a
Crossfire. My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6 and the processor is an Intel
Core 2 Quad Q9300.
I have ample power from a Coolermaster Real Power 1250watt PSU but have been
told the CPU might bottleneck and fitting 2 of these cards might have
issues.

Any thoughts??
