Critical update KB832483 for WinXp

Today I downloaded and installed Critical Update KB
832483. I see in Download History that it loaded
correctly. However, when I look in Control Panel -
Add/Remove Programs that KB 832483 is NOT listed (there
are others shown there). Shouldn't ALL critical updates
be shown there? Someone told me that they would be shown?
Please advise and thanks.

Hi

Only updates that can be removed are listed in the "Add/Remove Programs"
applet.

From "Buffer Overrun in MDAC Function Could Allow Code Execution (832483)"
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...n/MS04-003.asp

<quote>
Removal Information

This security update cannot be removed after it has been installed.

(unless you are running Windows XP and have a system restore point created
before the KB832483 install that you can go back to)

Thanks. Is there any way that you know of that would allow
me to see this KB832483 listed on my computer (if not in
the Add/Remove Programs area)? Any place I can look on my
computer to see KB 832483 listed? (If not, then in the
future if I wanted to look in my computer there would be
no way to know I ever downloaded this Critical Update.)
Thanks, Bob

What is wrong with download history?
That is part of its purpose.
Hopefully you do not use Add/Remove Programs as this is not the only
update that does not have uninstall capability.
Also many people delete the uninstall files to save space and then
delete the entry from Add/Remove Programs.

Hi

That is also described in the document I gave you a link to (see "Verifying
Update Installation" under the "Security Update Information" section). It
involves checking the file version on some files and reviewing a registry key.

Thank you. Would you be able to tell me how to get into
the Windows directory on WinXP from Windows Explorer? With
Win98, I would open Windows Explorer and then go to left
side of screen and click on the 'Windows' folder. I do not
see a 'Windows' folder in WinXP. (I wanted to check some
Cookes and also wanted to check the
HKEY_Local_Machine\Softare...etc. for the KB832483 update.)
Thanks again.

If you have XPP, you can open a command prompt window and type
systeminfo. That will list all the updates and hotfixes that were
installed at the bottom of the window.

Thanks, we have WinXP, but when we type systeminfo in C:
we get message:
"Systeminfo is not recognized as an internal or external
command or operable program or batch file."

Hi

Systeminfo.exe is in Windows XP Pro only (I think that Durand meant Pro with
the second P in XPP)...

I did indeed mean pro with the second 'p'.
