I have an XP pro machine that no matter how many times I install this
update, when I go check for critical updates to make sure I have them all it
shows up again as having to install it again. Anyone know why?

Hi

First, verify that the files Ole32.dll, Rpcrt4.dll and Rpcss.exe in your
System32 folder is corresponding with the values here for your OS to
check that the fix is really installed (be sure to look at the correct OS
version section):

If they do, the patch is installed, but stupid enough, Windows Update looks for
the existence of a registry key that sometimes is missing to define the update
as installed


At Kelly's site, you can download a VBScript file that corrects this (only run
it if the file versions corresponded with the KB article above):

'xp_kb823980_fix.vbs - Prevents Windows Update from prompting you to install
'Hotfix KB823980, after you have already installed it.
