Critical Patch - Problem?

I can no longer enter some websites that require me to enter a username
and password, for example my company's Microsoft Exchange server (for
accessing my company email), or sites that, once reached, require
entering a username and password to access certain feature pages. The
only change on my system as of late has been the installing of the
latest Microsoft Critical Patch for Windows 2000 (the recent official
one, not the scam visus-installing ones). Sites that require me to
enter a username and password as contained in their "normal-looking"
webpage aren't a problem; just the ones in which the generic-looking
Windows popup box (containing only a field for entering a username and
password) are the problem. Any ideas?
