Exchange 2003, Outlook 2007, xp sp2 pro

Just set up a new system for a user with Outlook 2007. Initially, messages
were visible in all folders. OST also setup. After several synchs, all
previously received email is now not visible. The exchange server manager
shows 1.8GB of email and 38K+ messages. Setting up a profile on other
systems using Outlook 2003 also has the same results. No antiv-virus
installed yet. Have recreated the profile - no change. All windows updates
for Office installed, view is set to messages. When I view the folder sizes
in outlook they show zero or just the few new messages received. New
messages are still showing at this point. The calendar is intact, but
contacts are also not showing. Please help - this is a mailbox for a
critical client. I don't know what else to try.

Thanks very much.

The view is set to messages but are you sure no filters are applied?

At the bottom right corner of Outlook does it show that it's "Connected"
to the Exchange server?

Hmmm...if you log into their Exchange mailbox with Outlook Web Access
(OWA) do you see all their mail?

No email client we have tried can see these messages - OWA or any setup with
Outlook 2003. The stats still show 38,207 messages and 1.8GB in the Exchange
system manager. Also, recover deleted items shows no messages to recover
although there were many originally.

Thanks again,

Wow. Very odd. New messages are still arriving, though? Anything
unusual in the Event Viewer on the Exchange Server?

Yes, new messages appear to arrive OK. We ran a test - restored a few mail
messages from a backup with option to overwrite messages if they already
existed. The correct messages appeared in the folder. The message count in
ESM also incremented by the appropriate amount.

Could the mailbox be corrupt?? We're at a loss as to what is going on.

Thanks for your continuing thoughts.

Sorry - forgot to mention - nothing unusual in any event log on the client or
