We have two seperate w2003 forests, say a.test.com and b.test.com, without
having a (empty root) domain test.com.
When we try to create an external two-way trust, we get the following errors:

"The verification of the incoming trust failed with the following error(s):
The trust password verification test was inconclusive.
A secure channel reset will be attempted.
The secure channel reset failed with error 1210: The format of the specified
computer name is invalid.

The outgoing trust has been verified. It is in place and active."

When we try to validate the trust afterwards we get the follwing error:

"The secure channel (SC) reset on domain controller \\server1.a.test.com of
domain a.test.com to domain b.test.com failed with error: The format of the
specified computer name is invalid."

I know that the forest design having a.test.com and b.test.com without
having test.com is a little bit weird but..... is what we are doing not
possible?
Is there a work around to get this done? Users from both forests/domains
have to access resources to the other forest/domain.

I would appreciate any suggestions.
