OK. Here's the prob and what I've done so far and what I think about this problem

Problem- In win98/ME/2000 (yes, I've used all!) my pc worked fine with P4, Gforce2, SBLIVE Value and etc etc
But now i have XP and everything is fine except SBLIVE Value. Windows autromatically installs my soundcard (from now on i'll call it sc) and says 'This device is working properly' No sound comes out, but windows plays media files and it appears that everything is ok. I tried many things but none worked

You may think there's a power problem or my speaker has problem or i've connected it in a wrong jack etc
But I can assure you it's a completely software problem or hardware conflict

software problem- May be I need a new driver. but since winXP has the largest and WHQL drivers, i don't think i need a new driver. But I went to creative's site and downloaded the latest driver. After starting the exe, it says no creative SBlive soundcard is found on your computer!!! If you have one uninstall it before launching the setup. If I uninstall the sc, it gets REINSTALLED by XP when the PC restarts

Hardware conflict- Well... My motherboard has an Builtin SC, so many ppl says that your builtin sc is causing prob
Disable it from bios and you'll have your sound back. But disabling it doesn't solve the prob. Instead, the builtin sc works fine when i select to use it from 'sounds and multimedia' and plug the spkrs in internal sc

My PC config- P4-1.7GHz ; Intel Motherboard with buitin sc ; Gforce2 64MB ; RAM 256MB ; SBLIVE Value ; External Modem plugged in serial port ; 4:1 speakers ; DirectX 9.0

Now Anyone has a solution?? I'll be very very and extreeeemly happy if someone helps
Ask any other info if you need. It may take awhile to reply cause i don't use net all the time
asking something on email would be welcome. ((E-Mail Removed))

Hi

I upgraded my 6 years old Win 98 machine to XP Pro, the sound blaster Live card and GeForec Pro card worked fine
I cleaned installed XP Pro and installed the XP drivers downloaded from creative.com
The sound blaster Live XP drivers version is "LiveDrvUni-Pack(Eng)" downloaded from creative.co
Below is the link, just copy and paste and you can find the correct drivers that I have mentioned above
http://asia.creative.com/support/dri...Files&x=29&y=1

Try boot in safe mode and login as administrator
Go to add or remove program to remove the creative sound blaster live drivers and all other applications from creative, if any
Go to device manager and uninstall the sound blaster Live

Note: If you cannot find the sound blaster live drivers from the add or remove programs, go to C:\Program Files/Creative
delete the entire Creative folder. (Do not clear the Recyle Bin for just in case, it can be cleared after the new drivers are working)(Note: you may also run regedit to clear all the creative stuffs but you must be very careful to do this, export and save the registries before any deletion

Reboot the machine, if found new hardware wizard appeared, close it and disregard the warning messages
Go to creative.com and download the above mentioned drivers and save it to a specific folder
Disable any antivirus softwares and stop running any other applications
Open the specific folder and double click the LiveDrvUni-Pack(Eng) icon to install the drivers
Do not disturb until you are prompted to
You should get the sound card to work after the reboot

Post back if you still have problems

Pete

Double click on the speaker icon in the notification area (next to clock
icon). This brings up Play Control, click on the Advanced selection, uncheck
Other Controls 1 Digital Output Only. Hope this helps.
