I just upgraded from 98 to Xp professional. My external
serial modem worked fine in 98. I downloaded the latest Xp
drivers and installed them in Xp.
The problem is that Xp only recognizes my modem if I
have it turned on when I power up my computer. If I forget
to do this Xp doesn't see it. I can go to control panel and
tell it to look for a new modem and it will see it and ask
me to reload the driver. Then it works fine.
I do not understand why it will not see the modem if I
power it up after my computer is already running.
