Creating shortcuts

Creating shortcuts of programs I want to put on my desktop, I am
puzzled by which file to choose.

When I go, for instance, to my C drive > Program files > Avira folder,
and then open that folder and view its contents by Detail, I get three
screenloads of icons. avadmin, avcenter, etc.

The first sixteen files are all classified as Application.

How do you choose which is the one to use to make a shortcut so that
when you click on that shortcut Avira AntiVirus will launch?

Many thanks,
Carl

Avira AntiVirus isn't in Start | All Programs? In the SysTray? If not, when
you're in Program Files, it will be one that has the Avira icon. Hovering
the cursor over each icon will give you its description.

Thanks for replying, Bruce.

Yes , Avira is under Start and in the Sys Tray. I just chose that as
an example, because it was first, alphabetically.

I was just as an example of how confusing it is when a beginner goes
into Program files in an effort to make a shortcut to an often-used
program.

12 of the files have the Avira icon. Hovering over them reveals such
info as:

Antivirus administrator
Antivirus Contrl Center
Antivirus Configuration Panel,
Etc.

None of them clearly indicating that they were THE application.

When I checked the Safari folder, however, there was only one Safari
icon and hovering over it revealed that that icon was indeed the
Safari Application.

Thanks again,
Carl

Easiest would be to RightClick on the command in the StartMenu and drag it
to the desktop, and choosing "Make shortcut.." (or Copy here)

Or, Right Click | Send To | Desktop (create shortcut).
