Hi,
just upgraded from 2002 to 2007 and now when I double-click shortcuts to my
excel-documents they will not show in 2007. Excel 2007 opens but with an
empty workspace, only when I click the upper-left "Office button" does it
show. Why?? If I open the same document using the "Open" command in 2007, it
shows immediately.

Thanks

It's not your problem. Well, it's your problem--but it's not your fault.

Lots of people have complained that when they doubleclick on a file in windows
explorer, that the workbook doesn't seem to show up in xl2007.

Maybe a future patch/upgrade will address the problem.

I'm wondering if these people have some other issue. I use Excel 2007. If I
double click on a workbook in windows explorer and Excel 2007 is not
running, Excel 2007 starts and loads the workbook. If Excel is running, it
simply loads the workbook. In other words, Excel 2007 acts the same as
previous versions.

I should have pointed out that using a desktop shortcut to a workbook does
the same as double clicking a workbook in windows explorer.
In my case, running Excel 2007 with Windows XP works as previous versions
did.

Ok :-)!

Well, now I am really confused. I tried double-clicking the excel file
directly and that opened just fine AND... now the shortcut works aswell!??!
Guess I'll let it brew for a while and see if the problem reappears and if
so, if I can make it go away again. Isn't it just typical Microsoft to have
a problem with such a basic functionality left unfixed even after SP1...

Thanks
Goran

I don't consider it a Microsoft basic funcionality issue at all. I have
never had a problem with it. When clicking on a shortcut to a workbook or
double clicking on the file name in windows explorer, Excel 2007 has behaved
as previous versions did. I've been using Excel 2007 for 10 months.

I've never experienced the problem, but lots of people posting here have. And
lots of smart people have corroborated their experiences.

I think it's one of those intermittent things. Maybe you'll get lucky and not
have anymore problems.

Who knows?

PCs are complex things. Maybe it's the combination of things that cause the
trouble. But it seems to be quite a popular problem--so lots of people are
doing the same combination of things.

Yes, it would be in their interest to figure out the "common" cause that
breaks it.
