Creating reference fields and pulling the reference from Excel

I am trying to create a document reference field that will pull in data from
a specific Excel worksheet cell. I have no problem creating a text field and
reference fields within the document, but have been unable to have the
reference pull from an Excel worksheet. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
