Creating a new symbol

I am trying to create a symbol for "average molecular weight" which looks like Mw with a line above the M. I need to save it as a symbol I can use frequently.

I tried through Equation, but cannot always insert it in documents because the option is usually not clickable and I cannot modify the font, etc. depending on what format my document is.

Any help would be appreciated!
