In 2003 MS Word, I'm trying to create a new list style in my document. I
click on modify style from my style lists. I select the style to be based on
a list already have. However, everytime I do this, it overrides that present
style. Isn't the New Style supposed to create new style vs, revising the
style?

I've searched help and this forum, but cannot find anything.

Thanks so much for your time.

In Word 2003, it will be safer to set up numbering directly attached to
paragraph styles, as explained at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...Numbering.html. The example
discussed makes use of the built-in headings, but if this is not heading
numbering, you can use any set of styles (for example, use the List Number
series).
