Creating a Home Network

Everywhere I search I seem to find a new answer so I
thought I'd try and post here and take everyone's opinion
on what I'm doing wrong or what I'm missing. I have 2
machines both running Win XP home and bought 2 wireless
NICs and a wireless router (per the fiend at Circuit
City). I recently tried to set the machines up to at
least see each other but to no avail, they don't seem to
be cooperating. Sharing an internet is not neccesarily
mandatory, it's more sharing the printer I'm worried
about. Could I please get some thoughts, suggestions, or
something similar here? Steps to make this work would be
greatly appreciated. I've never done anything like this
before and could use whatever help. Thanks in advance.

Run XP's Network Setup Wizard on both computers and tell it that they
connect to the Internet through a residential gateway (router). It
will make all the necessary settings and automatically share the
printer:
