We are relatively new users to excel and do not know how to write formulas. I
need the formula that will allow figures in columns C to automatically add as
they are entered into column E to keep a running total.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Need more details. What is in Columns C & E? Also give an example of what
you would like done, ie add C1+E1, Sum entire column?
