I administer a Compnay Intranet and am developing a section for our IT lads.
What is the easiest way to create a dummy copy of our exisitng site so that I
can upload examples for only them to see before we go live?

Create a subweb / site, just open your live copy directly in FP, and then publish to
http://livesite/testsite
