Creating a Date (form) field

I have FP 2003 and trying to create a date field that is common on the web rather than use a text box field. Do you have any suggestions?

You only have a few options. Put in a text box (and validate the input), or
several drop-down boxes, one for Year, one for Month, one for Day.

What do you mean by 'common on the web'?
Do you really mean in a form or just display the date on your page?
