Create shortcut WITHOUT a drive letter reference?

I'm organizing some files on a removable drive. Many of these files fall
under more than one category. I'd like to put the file in one location on
the drive, and use shortcuts at other locations.

The problem is, that a shortcut contains the drive letter of the target
file. If I plug the drive into a different PC, the drive letters will change
and the shortcuts will become invalid.

Is there any way to create shortcuts that DON'T specify a drive letter?

That would be a shortcut to nowhere

Noozer,

Of course you can create shortcuts without a drive letter as such if you
register it an a special folder (environmental variable), but you will still
need an exact path to where you want. A better idea would be your
'application data' folder though

You could then create a shortcut:

%appdata%\MyFolder...

Alternatively, you could assign drive Z:\ to your flash drive & see if XP
holds it - you maybe lucky

Uhm... no. It would be a shortcut to the same drive that the shortcut was
stored on.

I can't understand why Windows has yet to allow references to drive LABELs
in a path.
