if i redirect mail to an alternate folder via Create Rule, i automatically
lose New Mail sound and the New Mail envelope. this makes NO sense in the
design of Outlook.

A) can someone tell me how to avoid this GLOBALLY (instead of having to
REcreate the New Sound for every rule...)?

Simple - just make one rule - When mail is sent to me, cc, bcc, play a sound.

tried that - then i get two sounds on mail that has no rules...

Uncheck the box for providing feedback with sound for mail under the Advanced Options.

That works for sounds and for the popup summary, but it doesn't make the
envelope appear. This worked PERFECTLY in Outlook 2003 and it's very
dissapointing that it's such an issue in 2007.
