My archive file is getting really big. I would like to move it out of
Outlook but store it for future access if needed and start a new Archive
file. How can I safely go about doing this?

First of all, Kudos to you for archiving.

A typical Archive file is already "outside" of Outlook, named and stored as
defined during the initial archive setup. Every time the archive function is
executed it stores to the last file defined.

You did not specify your version of Outlook, in 2000 and XP the following
should work for you. To start a new archive, Goto File>Archive> Near the
bottom of the dialog box, enter the location and file name for your new
archive. Then run the archive. Future archive events will write to this new
archive file.

It is not necessary to move the old archive. I currently have connections to
my last three archive files, one for year2007, year2006, and year2005. These
files are stored safely in a network folder that is backed up nightly.

HTH and good luck

Thank you JR. I am using Outlook 2007. My archive file is located on my
hard drive under D&S\Myname\local settings\application data\microsoft outlook
Does that look like the right place for it to be?
I appreciate the help!

Don'r see any problem with that location. If yoru archive is important to
you, just be sure it gets backed up regularly.
