How to Create Hyperlink with Correct Address

How can I create a Hyperlink in Word so it is active in
the document without holding down the Control Key?
Currently when I create a Hyperlink it creates
C:\Document... and is not active unless I hold the
Control Key down when clicking on it.
...
When I copy the hyperlink into Outlook Contacts I need to
edit it between <> with: file:/// to make it active.
How can I make the Hyperlink created in Word active for
copying and pasting? I would like to copy and paste it
as: file:///C:\Document.... so I do not need to edit each
hyperlink
...

Help appreciated. Bill

The requirement for the use of the Ctrl key can be turned off via
Tools>Options>Edit - Uncheck the "Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink"

You can use Edit>Replace to replace C:\ with file:///C:\
