Create Exchange Plug in??

Hi

I have one basic question how do i create a plug- in. Can i do this by creating a project of type 'Add ons' in the Extensible project creation in .Net. Or is there a totally different way to create a Plugin . If 'Add ons is the approach how do i invoke the 'Add on' on to a Exchange server.
This might be a very basic question , but i have clue as to how to go abt doing . Request to pl help me with this
