I have a point of sale terminal I need to load windows
2000 on. problems: I dont have access to IBM's $150
external floppy drive, and the BIOS on the terminal does
not support USB boot. is there away to copy the 2000 pro
disk to a partition on the hard drive and make the hard
drive bootable and load from there?

I reviewed the pages suggested, and while they werent what
I was looking for they did steer me to a solution. By
shear luck I had a motherboard with similar chip set. The
IBM SurePos has an AMD processor, with via chip set on the
board. I had an Intell socket 370 processor board with
VIA chip set from the same time period. After loading it,
I loaded all the drivers for the IBM, including the patch
to uninstall the secondary IDE controller. I plugged the
USB hard drive and floppy in and let windows find them and
load drivers. Then I uninstalled the IDE controllers,
and the video drivers, shut it down and swapped the hard
drive into the IBM SurePos 500. She booted on the first
try. I had expected to have to force it into safe mode,
and then do a repair install from the second repair
prompt, but lucked out. Lady Luck was kind tonight. One
down, 65 to go.
