I've encountered a an XP computer where the hard drive partition is corrupt.

Win XP starts to boot, gets to the point where I could choose safe mode, but
then crashes with ntfs.sys x24 blue screen.

I cannot even install or repair with XP boot disk, always crashes with ntfs.sys
blue screen.

The hardware is ok, I've tried clearing the hd partitions and installing.

I was able to do a sector copy backup using Acronis.

Is there some way to create a bootable XP CD that would allow me to run CHKDSK
on the corrupt partition?

I created the peBuilder CD, and when it almost finishes, it gives an ntfs.sys
x24 blue screen of death - just as if I booted from the corrupt partition.

Is there anyway to force it to do a chkDsk on the hard drive before trying to
boot?

Thanks Les Caudle

What about downloading the manufacturers hard drive utility, possibly run
from a floppy? May be better than CHKDSK, anyway.

Mount the disk in another machine capable of reading ntfs and run chkdsk
from there. I guess you already know that at this stage the risk of
loosing your files will escalate by running chkdsk.

It may well be worth recalling that "Les Caudle" <(E-Mail Removed)> had
already stated in news:(E-Mail Removed)...

'Repair' can mean a number of things with the XP CD. If you can get to the
Recovery Console you can run a chkdsk from there.
