I have been trying to install a CD-ROM drive from my old
HP Desktop PC into my newer Dell PC, as a slave along with
my current CD-R/RW drive. The drive that I am trying to
add is a LG Electronics, model CRD-8322B. It is listed as
a compatible Windows XP drive. I tried using the cable
select jumper setting (to match master CD), on IDE
controller 1. I also tried using a slave-master setting
on each drive. My bios detects the drive and knows what
it is (either way). Windows XP detects the drive and
knows what it is (either way), IN SAFE MODE ONLY. When I
try to start XP in normal mode, PC stops responding before
XP loads (at the Windows screen with the scrolling
boxes). I do not get any errors.
Is there anything else that I should try or should I just
throw the LGE drive away and buy a different one? Thanks.
