It got to the stage that I couldn't even install version 7.5 again.
Used CCleaner to clear rubbish from computer and downloaded AVG 8.0 again
from the grisoft site and everything was OK.
I then transferred the downloaded file to my other computer without doing
any clean-up and it was OK.
I have had to conclude there was something wrong with the previous
downloaded files.
