hello,

I bought a new usb mouse for my laptop, but it happens something very
annoying when I plug it:

on my laptop I have 4 usb ports but the mouse will work only when
plugged on two of them. (the ones on the left side, I am right handed
so it's really uncomfortable)
when I plug the mouse on the other two ports widows tries to load a
driver, but it says it cannot find it... and mouse stays unusable.

I have win xp media center edition + service packs

can someone help me to make the mouse pluggable in the back usb
ports.. I can even stand in switching the problem (the two on the back
working and the two on the left side not working) :-D :-D :-D

thanx alot
Giulio

thanx but it didn't work. I checked in the register and the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion contains
the item 'DevicePath' that correctly points to '%SystemRoot%
\inf''%SystemRoot%\inf', I deleted the C:\WINDOWS\inf\infcache.1 file
and all plugged usb peripherals looked like restarting, but mouse
still doesn't work in the other two usb ports.

I have to say that I formatted & reinstalled everything last tuesday,
I tried to fix the problem with mouse by having a brand new
installation of the OS
(I'd have to do it anyway, windows was crashing a bit too often).
In fact mouse didn't start working. it wasn't a problem created by
some crash or something like that.

any other idea?

thanx
Giulio

extension cable for the mouse?
who should I blame for this solution ? Acer who produced bad usb
ports? or Microsoft who produced a silly software that needs to
reinstall a driver for a usb peripheral everytime I plug it into a
different port?

I really hope there's another solution.

I tried the mouse on another laptop equal to mine (same model and OS)
and I got the same problem: it doesn't work with the rear usb ports.
so I now know that the problem is not of my computer in particular,
caused by some hardware failure.
but can still be from bad acer hardware or by bad microsoft software.

how can I solve? any idea?
