Crazy Search Issue

I have Windows XP and Office 2007.

I get sporatic results from instant search if I'm trying to search a
selected folder.

For example. I have several messages in my inbox that contain the words
"suspension" and "LINE", if I search for "suspension" the messages are
returned in the search results. If I search for "LINE" it says no messages
are found.

I'm using Windows XP so the rebuild index opion is not available from the
control panel. Our company has not authorized the use of Vista yet. Is
there another way to force an index? Or does anyone have any suggestions as
to how I might fix this problem?
