Crazy mouse - repost

WindowsXP Pro SP2

A few minutes after opening a site my Microsoft PS2 mouse functions
erratically. It will jump to different spots on the screen, freeze sometimes
for a short while and at other times freeze permanently while the entire
system stalls and I have to shut down manually. I have defragged, used
AdAware, Pestscan, Norton AV, Postini and cleared the cache. I have restored
to a point when I knew it was working but to no avail. It sometimes jumps to
the top of the screen and the present open site closes.
It may be a virus but I am extremely careful about opening new sites or
downloading programs from sites I am not familiar with. Besides, my ISP has
an excellent virus and spam catcher.

I have posted this problem before but got only one response suggesting that I
delete the inbox.dbx files. This didn't help.
There must be an expert somewhere out there who can solve this.

Silly thought, but have you tried another mouse?
