Lately my Windows XP Professional computer has been locking-up either while I
am surfing the Internet or as soon as my Desktop appears when Windows starts
up. Usually it does not find any errors, but when it does it says its due to
either a cross-linked temporary file or because a temporary file has an
incorrect length. Sometimes I can stave-off the crash by periodically
removing all of the temporary files, but more often than not it does not have
an effect (i..e. it freezes after it completes deleting the files.) When it
locks-up I can only unplug the computer, and then plug it back in again. I
have occasionally spent ONE HOUR just unplugging my computer and plugging it
back in again because it freezes everytime the Desktop appears. I have
installed all of the available fix-packs. Would a new disk drive solve this
problem, or is something else occurring here?
