crashed laptop (advent)

Hi

Please can someone help? my laptop has crashed when i try to use the recovery disc, it says no hard drive found, cant contiue recovery. Any advice would be appreciated. Is there another way to do it. only a novice so there is a limit to what i can do.

sorry, its a advent 7035,windows xp. my daughter has important data on there. but it just wont let me use the recovery disc, with the option of non destructive recovery. I'm hopless sorry if come across has that!
