I nuked and paved my laptop the other day, when i updated my drivers
and rebooted, it will load till it checks my hd then the system
hangs/stall ...seize-up. I can get the num, cap lock to work and reboot
with ctrl-alt-del, but unable to access the bios. I have taken out the
small battery (quarter size) and tried to flash the cmos but to no
avail.

what are my options here? can i create a bootable cd to get it to run
or try to flash the bios with an updated bios (if available) or try to
find a boot image and use that? how can i rollback the drivers if
possible?

-thanks

Updated your drivers from where?
Why do you think you need to update the bios?
Does it boot into Safe mode?

I updated the drivers from the respective oem manufacture, or from the
utility disk that came with the laptop. i'm not sure about the bios,
it's date is '03 and there is an update for it. I can not get it to
boot past the bios auto-detect (the first 3secs of power-up).

What was the reason for the clean installtion? were you having problems?
If the sys was functioning prior to the reinstall and it was ok up to the
drivers install then it sounds like something went wrong with their
installation, or by coincidence a hw problem has appeared
