Just a heads up to all:

Be alert and aware when installing this version---there is an option
to also install YAHOO Toolbar. You can proceed without installation.
I hope this is not the first toll of the bell for this program.

The usual story, the end is nigh. CrapCleaner becomes crap.
Time to look for a freeware alternative.

I noticed that Irfanview also now comes with Google Desktop Search, and
will actually automatically install it unless you intentionally choose
to refuse it. This bothers me a little. And I agree that such add-ins
can indeed turn into the slippery slope to payware. But it is rather
hard to fault the makers of popular freeware for trying to somehow cash
in on their hard work, don't you think?

Daze:
Giving away something for free for so long and one day charging for it
seems more than a fault, but then its easy for me to say since I'm not
the one making the FREEWARE. Perhaps telling us ahead of time "this
will one day be chargeware" would seem more above board.

I haven't done an Irfanview install in some time, so didn't know
about the Google desktop thing. I do recall there being some eBay
related thing that you could chose if you wished, but I'm 90%
certain it was unchecked by default. If that has changed, it is
disappointing.

I just did two installs of the latest Irfanview (on 2K and XP) and both
times had to uncheck the box for installing Google Desktop. (I don't
recall seeing this "option" on previous Win98 installations, but I'm not
sure that Google Desktop runs on Win98, either.) I agree that Irfan made
a disappointing choice in setting it up that way, but it is, at least,
all clearly spelled out for anyone that's paying attention to what they
are doing during the installation process.
