I took on the job of trying to fix a computer for a friend
of mine. Running Windows 2000 Prof, everything seems to
be in order, except that the CPU keeps running very
highly. Before I got my hands on it, it was at 100% just
about all the time. I have since done Windows update,
virus scans, and even adware removal. At this point, it
only seems to run highly when I am using an active window
(like right now I'm doing another virus scan, so it's
Norton that is running at high usage....and when I run
Internet Explorer, that runs very high). I know these can
be demanding on the system, but certainly not at 100%. I
have removed KB835732, as I had already had one or two
problems with that on previous computers. Does anyone
have any suggestions on where to go next?
