I have a 1.5 gh PC running win 2000 all latest svs pks and
bios updates for the Intel motherboard. Taskman reports
30% CPU usage at idle? Any ideas why. Nothing is running
no anti virus no network nothing and still is using 30%.I
shut off all uneeded MS services as well. When O/S was
installed fresh it was at 2-3% at idle after all svs pks
etc itis now a steady 30% in taskman and it show system
idle usage 99% I used Qslice and it gave the same results
any ideas why it is using 30% CPU all the time. This is
affecting the performance of the PC when other apps need
the CPU.

also the patches @ windowsupdate?

can you see which proces takes up the cpu-cycles?
anything related with the start of symptons? (new
software?)

you might scan for spyware (adaware,spybot are good
scanners) or viruses

I searching for a spybot was my first attempt then a
virus. I have none running and the HD is 100% clean of any
types of spyware. Even if I shut of my Anti virus it is
still 25 to 30% This happened after installing the MS
updates but I did not notice which one and to re-create
the machine and install one by one would take forever. Any
more suggestions.
