I am using a P3 833 MHz Intel Processor, with 256 MB RAM and running XP Pro
Sp2,

When I open my task manager and see the performance, my CPU usage is always
100% while RAM usage is 164 MB or thereabouts,

There is one particular service which is hogging the CPU
it is listed as MAINSERVE.EXE

Can anyone tell me how to get around this particular problem.

Well I have found out that the service is concerned with my APC UPS (BACK -
UPS ES500) when I stopped and restarted this service manually the usage went
down but now I am having problems with the UPS interface program.. which
doesn't recognize my power source.

Q: When I try to start the WINDOWS UPS service it gives me an error message
that service is not confiugure properly! There is a separate service for my
APC UPS which is running all the time. could this be causing a conflict and
thus resulting in excessive CPU usage.

I DON"T HAVE ANY BUGS etc... on my system having scanned it a lot of times,
help would be appreciated

For questions about APC software:

APC Support Center
http://www.apcc.com/support/index.cfm

P.S. I think there are one or two Microsoft newsgroups that you missed.

Thanks a lot the first post was no use.

I know I posted to a lot of newsgroups but couldn't decide which one was the
best to post it on since the problem contained bits of mantainence, hardware
& software issues!! and it was effecting my performance!!

Apologies for that.
Starting and Restarting the service seems to have done the trick.
