I'm pondering upgrading my aging Celerion to a P4 cpu and trying to
get all the info I need. Will changing the cpu require reactivating
Windows XP Pro\SP2?

You may have to reactivate but I would be surprised if your motherboard will
support that cool, new P4 processor. You might want to look into that.

If you are change the motherboard, YES!

If you are just changing the CPU chip, maybe.

First of all you'll need to ensure that your old motherboard can handle the
FSB (front side bus) speed of the P4 you wish to install. Don't go and buy
something without making sure it will be compatible.

No changing the CPU should not require re-activation.... changing the
motherboard AND CPU will require a Repair Installation AND reactivation.

Cjeck your MoBo manual dor CPU Upgrade Specs to see if it will handle a P4
CPU.
Probably not..............
If it will, you might decide to upgrade the CPU fan as well. The P4 runs a
good bit hotter than the cool running Celeron.
Please keep us posted on your upgrade, as upgrade info (firsthand) is
priceless you know.
